What is a 2-window cuvette used for?

A 2-window (two-sided) cell has two opposite polished faces for light to pass straight through; the other four faces are frosted or opaque. It is the standard choice for absorbance and transmission measurements in the UV-Vis, where only a straight light path is needed.

2-window or 4-window cuvette — which should I choose?

Choose a 2-window cell for routine absorbance. Choose a 4-window (fluorescence) cell when the instrument reads at a right angle — for fluorescence, nephelometry or 90-degree scattering. If you only measure absorbance, the 2-window version is enough and costs less.

Will this 10 mm 2-window cuvette fit my spectrophotometer?

Yes. It uses the standard 10 mm path, 12.5 mm-wide cuvette format accepted by common holders from Agilent, Shimadzu, PerkinElmer, Thermo, Hitachi and Jasco — the same footprint as a 4-window 10 mm cell.

What wavelength range does JGS1 fused silica cover?

JGS1 fused silica transmits from about 200 nm through 2500 nm, covering UV, visible and near-IR. For visible-only work optical glass is cheaper, but quartz is required below roughly 350 nm.

Does the cuvette come with a lid, and does it seal?

It is supplied as two cells with lids. The lids reduce evaporation during routine measurements; they are not pressure-tight like screw caps, so for volatile or elevated-temperature runs use a screw-cap cell.
