JGS1 is the designation used in Japan (Japan Glass Specite) for the highest-purity grade of synthetic fused silica, manufactured by vapor-phase hydrolysis of silicon tetrachloride. With metal impurity content below 1 ppm and OH content below 5 ppm, JGS1 offers the widest spectral transmission range of any common optical material — from deep UV (cut-off ≈ 200 nm) through visible and into the near-IR (up to 2500 nm).
JGS1 plates are ideal for: UV spectroscopy windows, high-temperature viewports, semiconductor wafer carriers, optical filters, laser components, and analytical instrumentation. The combination of high purity and low thermal expansion (5.5 × 10−7 /°C) makes them suitable for precision optical assemblies and rapid thermal cycling.
Need a size or thickness not listed here? We can cut JGS1 plates to your specification (tolerance ±0.02 mm available on request) and offer volume pricing. Common requests include round plates cut from squares, drilled apertures, and AR-coated windows.
