A plain-language guide for US labs and procurement teams budgeting a quartz cuvette order: the HS code we ship under, the US duty rate, China-origin add-on tariffs, who pays what, and how to estimate total landed cost. Rates change — always confirm the current figure with CBP or your customs broker before you commit a budget.
Scuvette quartz cuvettes are classified under HTS 7017.90 — "Other laboratory, hygienic or pharmaceutical glassware" — the subheading for general laboratory glassware not specifically enumerated elsewhere in heading 7017. Because our cells are made of fused silica (quartz) optical glass, they fall under this "other" category rather than graduated glassware (7017.10). The six-digit HS 7017.90 is identical in every country that uses the Harmonized System; the statistical suffix may vary by shipment.
For HTS 7017.90 the US Most-Favoured-Nation (Column 1 General) base rate runs from Free to 6.7% ad valorem depending on the exact statistical suffix. Quartz spectroscopic cuvettes are commonly entered at the Free rate. The base MFN rate is set by the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) and applies to goods of any origin.
Our cuvettes are manufactured in China, so US-bound shipments may also be subject to additional tariffs on top of the MFN rate: the long-standing Section 301 measures on Chinese goods, and the 2025 IEEPA / reciprocal tariffs introduced by executive action. These are applied by CBP at entry and can change on short notice. They are not included in any product price or standard freight quote. Confirm the current applicable rate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) or your broker before budgeting — we cannot quote a duty rate that is fixed into the future.
We ship with international freight prepaid to your US address. Unless a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) price is explicitly agreed and written into your quote or purchase order, import duties, border taxes, and customs clearance are the responsibility of the importer of record (the buyer). We do not build a duty assumption into standard pricing, because the rate depends on the live tariff schedule and your entry details. If you need duties included, ask for a DDP quote and we will price it for that specific shipment.
A realistic landed-cost budget adds the following layers on top of the product price:
| Component | Notes |
|---|---|
| Product value | Invoice total (the goods themselves) |
| International freight | Prepaid by us to your US address (Yanwen International Express) |
| MFN duty | Free – 6.7% of product value (usually Free for quartz cuvettes) |
| China add-on tariffs | Section 301 + 2025 IEEPA, if applicable — confirm current rate |
| Customs broker fee | Typically a flat handling fee charged by your broker |
| Last-mile / local | Domestic delivery within the US, if not already in the freight |
For most standard quartz cuvette orders the dominant variables are the product value and any China-origin add-on tariff; the base MFN duty is often zero.
Stock items ship from our Yixing warehouse and arrive at a US address in about 11–18 days after payment (1 day dispatch + ~2 days to the Shanghai export hub + 8–15 days with Yanwen International Express). See the full timeline, carrier and tracking notes on our US shipping & delivery page.
Tell us your exact items, quantity and US delivery address and we will itemise product, freight and — on request — a DDP figure that includes the then-current duty. Contact Scuvette →
HTS 7017.90 — "Other laboratory, hygienic or pharmaceutical glassware." Our fused-silica (quartz) spectroscopic cells fall under this "other" subheading rather than graduated glassware (7017.10).
The base MFN rate for HTS 7017.90 is Free to 6.7% ad valorem; quartz cuvettes are commonly entered at Free. Because our products are made in China, additional Section 301 and 2025 IEEPA tariffs may apply on top — confirm the current rate with CBP or your broker, as these change.
Unless a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) price is explicitly written into your quote or PO, import duties, border taxes and customs clearance are the importer of record's (buyer's) responsibility. We prepay international freight to your US address but do not assume the duty in standard pricing.
Yes. Send your items, quantity and US delivery address and we will itemise product, freight and — on request — a DDP figure that includes the duty rate current at shipment time. We do not lock a future duty rate into a quote.
