Thorlabs is a superb photonics shop, but cuvettes are a small corner of its catalogue. Compare Thorlabs quartz cuvettes with scuvette JGS1 cells — spec table, cross-reference, pricing and delivery.
Thorlabs is a world-class optics supplier, but its cuvette range is a small shelf in a huge catalogue. Labs tell us three things when they switch to a dedicated cell factory:
| Specification | Thorlabs | scuvette JGS1 | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quartz material | Fused silica (Thorlabs own line) | JGS1 fused silica (Japanese imported) | Both are synthetic fused quartz; equivalent purity. |
| UV cut-off | ~185–200 nm | 190 nm | Both suitable for deep-UV work. |
| NIR upper limit | 2500 nm | 2500 nm | Full UV-VIS-NIR coverage. |
| Path length tolerance | ±0.01 mm | ±0.01 mm | Critical for Beer-Lambert accuracy. |
| Dimensional tolerance | ±0.1 mm | ±0.05–0.1 mm | Instrument holder fit. |
| Parallelism of optical faces | <0.02° | <0.02° | Prevents beam-deflection artifacts. |
| Surface flatness | λ/4 per inch | λ/4 per inch | Keeps stray light low. |
| Transmittance | >88% (250 nm) | >80% (paired testing) | Brand-grade Q/QS levels exceed 90%. |
| Working temperature | Up to ~1000 °C | <100 °C (glued cells) | Sintered/one-piece cells available for high-temp. |
| Chemical resistance | Neutral & solvent (varies by series) | Neutral samples (glued); custom sintered for solvents | Check solvent compatibility before switching. |
Both manufacturers use synthetic fused silica (not natural quartz). Our standard cells are made from Japanese-imported JGS1, transmitting 190–2500 nm — equivalent to the Fused silica (Thorlabs own line) grades for UV-Vis and fluorescence measurements. Paired transmission test reports are included with every shipment.

scuvette cells follow the industry-standard 12.5 × 12.5 × 45 mm outline with 15 mm or 8.5 mm centre height, so they drop into holders made for Hellma/Starna/FireflySci/Thorlabs-dimensioned cells — including Agilent, Shimadzu, PerkinElmer, Thermo, Jasco and Hitachi instruments. Not sure? Tell us your instrument model and we will confirm fit before you pay.
Switch to scuvette if you want:
scuvette operates under the ISO 9001 quality system with RoHS-compliant products. Raw material purity is batch-tested at SiO₂ ≥ 99.99% and reported with your order. We supplied cuvettes for China Space Station experiments and expedited production at short notice — earning an official letter of thanks from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Certificates ship with every inquiry on request.
As the manufacturer, we accept custom orders the big brands often turn down or price out of reach: custom Z-height for legacy instruments, unusual window layouts, special closures, engraved markings, OEM packaging and private-label branding. Send a drawing or dimensions through our contact page and receive a quote within 1 business day.
No — only for cuvettes and optical cells. Thorlabs sells thousands of photonics products; we specialise in quartz cells. If you need cuvettes, we are a dedicated factory; for anything else, keep Thorlabs.
Price is only part of it. The real advantages are dedicated cuvette engineering support, custom geometry from the factory, matched-pair certification and faster custom lead times.
Yes — flow cells, screw-cap, stoppered, demountable, long-path and custom OEM cells are all standard lines for us.
