What to Check

Glued (cemented) construction — neutral samples only

The quartz body is inert, but the cement is not: strong acids, strong alkalis, HF and most organic solvents will attack the bond. For aggressive solvents, ask about our powder-fusion bonded cells.

Volume = slit width × 350 µL/mm

1 mm slit = 350 µL, 2 mm = 700 µL, 3 mm = 1050 µL, 4 mm = 1400 µL, 5 mm = 1750 µL. The wider the slit, the larger the sample volume needed to fill the light path.

Stopper (PTFE) included

Each cuvette ships with a PTFE stopper and a plastic storage box (1 pc per box). The stopper prevents evaporation of volatile samples during measurement.

Stoppered Micro Quartz Cuvette – 4-Port – Frequently Asked Questions

Which slit width should I choose for my sample volume?

Volume scales at about 350 µL per mm of slit width: 1 mm ≈ 350 µL through 5 mm ≈ 1750 µL. Pick the narrowest slit that still fills the light path, so scarce samples use a 1 mm slit and dilute, weakly absorbing samples benefit from a wider slit.

Should I choose a two-way or a four-way cell?

This is the four-way version (four polished windows). Two-way cells suit straight-through absorbance readings in a standard spectrophotometer. Four-way cells add clear faces for 90° fluorescence detection and for instruments that read from the side. If you only run absorbance, the two-way version does the same job.

Will this cuvette fit my spectrophotometer?

Yes for any instrument with a standard 10 mm cuvette holder: the body is 12.5 × 12.5 × 45 mm with a 10 mm optical path, the same footprint as a conventional macro cell. The JGS1 windows transmit from 200 nm to 2500 nm, covering UV-Vis and most fluorescence bands.

How do I clean and store the cell without damaging it?

Rinse with deionized water right after use, flush with dilute laboratory detergent, then rinse with isopropanol and let it air-dry inverted. Fill only with soft-tipped pipettes or gel-loading tips – never forceps. Store it in the supplied box with the PTFE stopper loose. Full protocol in our cuvette care guide.
