What are square alumina crucibles used for compared with cylindrical ones?
Square and rectangular alumina crucibles make better use of furnace-tray and hot-plate space and sit flat without rolling, so they are preferred for batch ashing, powder sintering and TGA/DSC sample arrays where many containers share one tray. Cylindrical crucibles are easier to pour from and are the default for single-sample melts.
Do the square crucibles come with lids, and when should I use a lid?
Both open-top and lidded versions are stocked. A lid reduces melt evaporation and contamination during long high-temperature holds, which matters for volatile salts and moisture-sensitive samples; open-top crucibles are simpler to load, scrape and clean. Lidded sets are sold per set, open-top pieces singly.
What temperature and atmosphere can 99% alumina crucibles handle?
Our 99% Al₃O₃ crucibles are rated for long-term service up to 1600 °C in neutral and oxidising atmospheres. Avoid rapid thermal shock and contact with strong alkalis at high temperature, which attack alumina.
How do I read the stock-size dimensions (L × W × H)?
Dimensions are given as outer length × width × height in millimetres, with wall thickness and capacity listed per row. Choose the height for your fill volume (leave headspace for expansion) and the footprint for your tray layout.
Can I order custom square or rectangular sizes, and what is the lead time?
Yes — custom outer dimensions, wall thickness, lids and laser markings are available (OEM/ODM). Stocked sizes ship within 1–3 business days of payment; custom square and rectangular crucibles are cut to drawing in roughly 10–20 days before dispatch.
